He kidnapped three women and held them in his basement. He thought they couldn't fight back. He was wrong...

Snatched from the street near her home, Holly Carter is taken to a rural house and thrown down into a stone basement. She meets two other women who have also been kidnapped, and soon Holly learns about the horrific rituals that take place in the house. Eventually, she's called upstairs to take her place in the ice bath.

As her nightmare continues, however, Holly learns about a mysterious power that exists in the basement, and which the three women might be able to harness. When they finally manage to get through the metal door, however, the women have no idea that their fight for freedom is going to stretch out for more than a decade, or that it will culminate in a final, devastating demonstration of their new-found powers.

American Coven is a horror novel about three women trapped in a nightmare, about the shocking discovery that gives them a chance to escape, and about the price they must pay if they want to be free. Contains violence and adult language.

American Coven eBook Amy Cross

I am a fan of all things horror, especially when there's a witch twist. I picked this book because it had elements of horror that sounded really engrossing, but not every book is as good as its description. More often than not I'm seriously disappointed with either the characters or the storyline in general. Not so with this book.. From the very beginning, to the last harrowing pages, I was captivated. Very well done and never lagged at any point for me.. I'll be looking for more Amy Cross titles in the future.

American Coven eBook Amy Cross Reviews

What a great read! It was a little bit on the long side, however... the concept was certainly gripping and the book really drew me in. 😊 I couldn’t wait what happens next after each and every chapter. Every chapter of this book was captivating! The ending was a little sad though but still fits the story in a kind of harmonious way. 🧡 I really enjoyed this book! Simply awesome! ✨⭐️
2 1/2 stars. It's an interesting concept, but the content drags. There is also a big problem with grammatical errors, redundancy, and character consistency. It also got very old rereading a continual cycle of arguing that follows the same pattern with one character denying something for like ten pages, and then switching and taking the lead. This sort of thing happens over and over and over and over. I gave it three stars because it is a cool concept and it kept my interest long enough to finish it. Amy Cross desperately needs a competent editor, though.
It was just a house, then evil people moved in and the took the over and soon killed them. But that was NOT THE END. THE EVIL LIVED ON. And as other people came and made a home EVIL took them over too. The house now holds 3 young women and is controlling their live too. But they are fighting the control. Read of their attempts at escape and ENJOY THIS AMAZING GHOST STORY. I RECOMMEND!
I liked this book alot and I am glad I took a chance on reading something about witches. The story line started off slow when it started to introduce the characters but when it got the heart of the book I was very captivated on how the witches finally had overtaken the man that like to go to the extreme with torture. I would not mind reading this author again if she can thrill me with the same quality.
This is the third book I've read by Amy Cross and I continue to be impressed by her creativity. The premise was unique and, for the most part, fleshed out well. As many have mentioned, there are numerous typos that can be quite distracting. Had the author not indicated the character through which we were experiencing the story via chapter titles, it could have really ruined the book. Hopefully those will be corrected in digital editions. I also agree that the first half is stronger than the second, although not by much. Ironically, this could be turned into an excellent feature film with some tight screenwriting.

I wish would allow half-star ratings because it's definitely more 3.5 stars than 4 (mainly because of the typos) but it's another intriguing entry in Cross' repertoire.
This is a good book and I enjoyed it. What held me back from giving it 5 stars was the editing. It wasn't horrible, in fact it was better than a lot of ebooks. There were just a few sentences were the wrong character was named. For example, in one chapter told from Holly's perspective, Elizabeth is speaking to her, and therefore should be speaking about Natalie, the third woman, rather than Holly. The errors aren't real irritating, but they do break immersion somewhat.
Completing my goal of reading a few Amy Cross novels, American Coven was next on my list. Although this novel contains more suspense than horror it was still a good concept. The premise of the book centers around a demonic house that likes to hold certain individuals hostage. We are taken into the lives of three women who develop an unlikely bond out of a horrific situation. The imagery in this novel was creative and different from Amy Cross other stories. The grammatical errors are frustrating and many times during my reading, I would find myself going back over a chapter to grasp a better understanding. Numerous characters were thrown into the story and Cross had a hard time keeping up with the names (at times when Natalie or Holly's name was used Elizabeth's character was the one speaking). The novel started out strong however, towards the middle it became repetitive and slow. Without creating spoilers that pretty much sums it up. Overall, a decent novel with creepy undertones and likeable characters. I appreciate you for taking time out to read my review. I hope it is informative.
